"Jewelry is more than
an art. It’s my complete obsession.”
-ALINE SHAPIRO

An inspired aesthetic

Aline Shapiro is a New York-based jewelry designer whose aesthetic is a melding of bold opposites. Using a mix of metals, unique precious and semi-precious gemstones, vitreous enamel, and bold metalwork, Aline’s style is as unexpected and edgy as it is whimsical and feminine.

Taking inspiration from her extensive (and ever-growing) collection of vintage curiosities, natural elements, and outrageous costume jewelry, Aline’s pieces are a story waiting to be told.

Aline grew up in a home filled with creativity. When her father, John, wasn’t working his day job, he was spending time in his basement studio working his artistic alchemy. From welding Calder-esque sculptures, to carving wooden furniture, and even restoring a vintage barber’s chair, his creativity was limitless.

After college, Aline began a career in advertising, where she thrived on the electric energy and constant exchange of ideas. She then moved on to hone her editorial eye in product development for GAP.

Aline has always viewed personal style as a lens for storytelling — and hers has always been anything but “basic black.” In the early 2000s, her natural eye for style led her to launch a series of trunk shows for a variety of brands including Boden and J.Crew, which soon gained a cult following.

Jewelry is the first thing I put on in the morning and just keep adding on!

After becoming a mom to three (now grown) kids, Aline began taking jewelry-making classes at the 92nd Street Y as a much-needed creative outlet. And what started as a hobby soon became a realization of her life’s passion.

Today, when she’s not creating in her Upper East Side studio, Aline spends her time scouring antique fairs and jewelry hubs both near and far, or hanging with her fellow GemX social club jewelry fanatics. Either that, or she’s binging on trashy TV or shopping for new kinds of candy and gum to feed her insatiable sweet tooth.
